How to have conversations that matter about menopause

Did you know that the fastest-growing group in the workforce is women over 50?

And when you consider that the average age of menopause in #australia is 51 years, the conversation around #menopause and #work (#money ) becomes even more important.

Women tend to say that their symptoms are harder to deal with at work because they are embarrassed and worried about what other people will think.

Handling a difficult conversation well is not just a skill, it is an act of courage. Bringing taboo subjects like menopause, menstrual health and money out into the open increases safety and autonomy for women globally, whether this is your story or not.

This is not an issue we need a permission slip from the government to solve. Every business owner, CEO, board member and employee can choose to start this conversation in their organisation. Indeed, to go one step further and introduce menstrual leave policies and paid leave allowances for their team and then to make sure everyone who menstruates or is experiencing menopause is supported to make use of the provision.

This is one tiny step in the many, many steps that need to be taken to address the #gender#paygap .

It is also important to acknowledge that whenever #women gather to share wisdom and resources, stuff gets done. Our #community changes for the better.

Last week we started a conversation that matters, have a #listen to my portion of the presentation.
